Hello everyone and a very warm welcome to the Dynamics show, where we remind you to align with your dynamic well-being every day. That is why the day in Dynamics is capitalized. It is a daily thing. I'm Marianna, your guide on today's journey. First, thank you so much for being with us and know that there is a reason you are here. Whether our podcast resonates with you, evokes more thoughts, sparks disagreement, it's all part of the journey to find your dynamic balance on this subject. Dynamic balance on this subject. Now, today, we're doing a discussions recording and we're going to explore the subject of career challenge update. Now I want to reintroduce a guest that's been on here before and have the pleasure of being joined by Makoda.
Speaker 2:Hi, thank you for having me.
Speaker 1:Awesome, welcome, welcome, welcome. You've been here before. You've even hosted this show before. For me, it's so nice to have you back, and the reason why we're doing this specific topic is because in April of 2022, when you hosted the show you had put out a challenge about why you picked the career that you did and put out a challenge to me, so then I did a recording not too long after that. So why do people choose what they want when it comes to their career? Why and so that was the challenge. It's like what is the steps that go through? Let's introduce Makota. She is now a teacher. Yes, like I said, if you've ever heard her, she's worked on dynamic show, dynamic series, kid dynamics. She's been a big part of that, and then she has a whole other full life as well, outside of helping us with our stuff here. So, makota, why don't you just briefly overview where you are now and then we'll get into some questions?
Speaker 2:well, where I am right now is a first grade teacher in my local school and, yeah, that's been the biggest change so far. Before that, I was a tutor, so I got to really get some good, wholesome experiences on how to really manage students and how to be the best that I can be for educating them awesome.
Speaker 1:Congratulations on that, thank you, yeah, so I'd like to just start and set the tone for our time together, because the intention is to experience this show fully and dynamically. So let's all bring our attention to this now moment and listen with an open heart and open mind. So, to start, we always ask a question to our listeners and it's like have you ever found yourself in a position of not knowing what your career is going to be? Maybe you just finished school and you're like, wow, what now you know, because you're not quite sure sometimes you know about what. So have you ever found yourself just in that position with what do I do now? Like I took something in school, but maybe I don't want to spend two to four to six to eight to ten years of more study to go forward on something that you want.
Speaker 1:So picking your career is huge. So if you're just joining us now and you haven't gone back in our Dynamic Show podcast before it's April of 2022. It'll be two recordings, like within a couple of weeks of each other. So if you want to get the backstory of that before you go on this, or listen to this first and then the backstory, which might make a little bit more sense. So, makota, just summarize why did you, what did you pick as a career and why did you pick it, and are you still happy with your choice?
Speaker 2:That's a very big question, for sure. Well, I picked education first and I thought that education was something that I wanted to do and that would motivate me to be better and to help people around me, and I still feel that way. I've been able to, like I said earlier, do tutoring. I've had a lot of experience before that doing different types of things like mentoring, and I think that was the biggest pull for me is wanting to help people and to have them have that eureka moment when they have learned something that they didn't beforehand, and to be better for themselves.
Speaker 1:Well, that's an awesome knowing that you have. Now you say you're still happy with that.
Speaker 2:you picked education still happy with that. You picked education. Yes, I think that maybe I may eventually switch to a different grade level or to a different type of education, maybe, but I think that just the principle of being able to help students and to get them to know them as individuals and to understand how different everyone has to learn and how they act and their personalities, and all that is something that I really didn't think about before now yes, and we honor not only you as a teacher but all teachers, because we had I had the opportunity to go in a bit with her before it started and you were taking over a classroom from a teacher that had left.
Speaker 1:So you're just working with the, you know what was there. And then I remember it's just like, okay, what do we want to do? And you're like you know, because you know they, they leave a whole bunch of stuff there, or some some of them do anyway. So then you had to decide whether or not you wanted a theme or what colors that you were like. There's a whole lot to do when it comes to setting up the classroom even before the year starts, because sometimes you don't have your curriculum, sometimes you don't know what is going to be, and especially because you were the grade one teacher in a new school.
Speaker 2:So it's not like you had been there before.
Speaker 1:So how did that make you feel from like, oh, this is brand new, so what's you know what's going to unfold for you? How did you feel?
Speaker 2:Well, it was a bit overwhelming. I went into that school not even knowing my class list yet, Not knowing you know how many kids I would have, not knowing what would be a good theme or what do I need to have in my classroom, what was I going to be getting later on. So it was a lot of things that I had to kind of think about and really prioritize.
Speaker 1:What was the most important thing and what could I just learn later and get help from with my seniors of my school well, that makes, yeah, a lot of sense, because it's like, I guess, if thinking even of our audience and the multitude of careers that they're they have right now, and it's like going into and starting a new position, especially because if you go right out of college, university, even transferring it from jobs from one company to another or whatever it might be, it's just like there's always that excitement yet nervousness all wrapped into one, because you're like the unknown and what do you expect?
Speaker 1:and you know and all that stuff. So now, if you'd like to update them, because you're a busy person right now, you're, you're very, very busy. So what else is going on? You, you teach grade one and what else are you doing right now?
Speaker 2:I'm also doing my master's program for a master of education, advanced teaching so that's another big step in being able to just learn more. And that was the biggest reason I'm doing it is that I didn't want to just settle or feel like it was enough, especially as an educator, that things are always changing and moving and it's important to just be as alert as possible for those types of things. Congratulations. How much more time do you have left for that? I think I'll be graduating about next August, so quite a bit left still, but I'm getting into the more specific courses for the concentrations that I'm doing, so that'll, you know, make a big difference on what I'm actually learning. I think so.
Speaker 1:So, yes, and then we'll do another update when you're done that, because that'll be another career challenge. Update number two because, it'll be interesting to see after you have finished your first year of teaching, grade one, where you're at, but then after that is like when you're done your program, it's just like what do you want to do?
Speaker 2:Do you?
Speaker 1:still want to teach a younger age? Do you want to go into administration? Do you want to go into curriculum? There's so many things that you can do in education. It's so exciting.
Speaker 2:Yes, it is very exciting, but you have a full load because you're you do the full-time teaching and then coming home and then doing your master's online, so it's like yeah, it's quite a lot, but you know it's that's the fun part about it is that now that I'm learning so much, I get to really see the different points of view, and it's definitely worth it. You know, learning while I'm actually doing it, but then also applying that knowledge to projects and assignments that I'm doing.
Speaker 1:So it really helps me understand that concept a lot better, because you have the firsthand experience of being able to just have it unfold right in front of your eyes with the kids like you have that, like, oh, this concept, let's try it out. You know, we're still keeping in mind of keeping teaching the curriculum that your school has, but yet the concepts and the concentrations being able to do that.
Speaker 2:So yes, it's very awesome being able to literally see a project and be like, oh, try this type of teaching method. Or if you have tried it, and because a lot of those people have been education for a long time that are in my master's degree. Maybe they did, you know, eight years ago or a few years ago, but for me I can do it right in that moment and really see how, if it's still effective that method.
Speaker 1:So that's really interesting to me yes, that's why I always thought that at some point you might go into the administration or curriculum side, because you, you know, you know the value of like keeping, keeping it current and you know you you're a younger age, so you have the fresh new ideas and sort of like. These generational thing generate X and Y and Z and all that. You know, gen stuff, that that that we have, you know in society and but sort of relating of how they have learned along the way. You know what's relatable for kids and how are they understanding, because there'll always be new methods and with all the technology and AI and everything coming up, it's like like how do you guys keep up with all of that? Even now? We don't really.
Speaker 2:I think that's the biggest thing is that that's the biggest thing I've noticed with education is thinking about back when I was in first grade. Compared to what I have to teach these first graders is night and day. The amount of things that they have to learn, at least where I am living or we're living, is just crazy. But it's just. You don't even think about those things when you're in first grade. You don't think that it's difficult or too much or anything like that. So it's really fun to be able to kind of see it from the perspective of what was I learning at this age? And then what am I teaching them and how do I kind of take what I learned in school and make it a bit more fun, because sometimes the curriculum is not always the funnest to teach.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I think it's like any curriculum though. It's like here it is. You know, even the kid dynamics curriculum is like here it is what do you want to do with it? And the more you into it, the more you'll get out of it from the kids, right. And then it's having those options of never doing it. One way there's always more than one way to bring your information across, to keep the kids, because you can feel them right away, and I know, even teaching the Kid Dynamics Program, you know if they're engaged. Yes, you know if they're engaged. Yes, you can tell by their, you know their body language, the eye contact, like everything, even their energy, of whether, like, are they getting this, are they engaged with it? And then, and then being able to shift right in that moment yes if, if not, you know if you've lost them or they're off somewhere.
Speaker 1:But you'll always have, you know, one or two or three kids that might do that anyway, but you know it's interesting. So congratulations, you're on such a cool journey. Yes, thank you.
Speaker 2:I think so as well. Well, now that we've talked about my update, I'd love to hear what your update has been oh, thank you for asking my career update.
Speaker 1:I well, we moved, yes, and that felt like a career in itself, just moving, and you know anyone that's moved in our audience what it's like. But we've moved sort of twice in the last year and a half or whatever two years. So it was all. It was all about putting my career on the side because I had, as everyone know, I had retired from the airline business a while ago and then I'd just been working with my husband, but then primarily working on Kid Dynamics and Dynamics series and this Dynamics show. So I do that when mostly I'm inspired to do it.
Speaker 1:Now a lot of people will go well, it needs to be weekly, or it needs to be monthly, or it needs it. No, in my world, nothing needs to happen. I don't want to put out content if I'm not feeling it. So I have committed myself to once a month. So I will put out something once a month, and if you get more because you know that's just what works, then great. And if not, then I usually put something out on social media to say, hey, this is going on in our lives right now, so you won't be getting a show or anything for us so right. So thanks for asking.
Speaker 1:It's still. It's still my, my full, heartfelt gift to this world is to work on the those three things. And the interesting part is kid dynamics started first because it's been taught for many years and still is, and then I went into dynamic series, which incorporates kid dynamics. But then they're like oh, podcast, let's do the podcast. So now it's getting into like courses, e-books and more on social media stuff. Even though I don't like going on it very often, I do know that it's our way to connect and Makota has been part of that, off and on, not so much anymore, but I still ask for her as a consulting as to what you know, what should happen or what would be a good thing or what would the kids connect with, more bringing it across something, across a certain way. So what is the challenge now, then?
Speaker 2:Challenges to meet up when you've done your master's and done my first year, done the master's program and then kind of see what has changed. You know what did I really learn through my master's program? Uh, you know what did I do my dissertation on how was my first year of teaching, you know? Did I go back for a second year? Did I change schools? Did I change grade levels? You know, all those things could change in the year that we have a little bit less than a year, I guess now.
Speaker 1:So yeah, and one of the themes of kid dynamics is change. Life is constantly changing, so it's easy for things to change. And then I'll update you as well Not just you, the audience Update on what's happening and what's going on. But you know that we are here, we're not going anywhere.
Speaker 2:Yep.
Speaker 1:Not for a bit anyway, but things change all the time, so what would you like to leave the audience with when it comes to good advice? Good, heartfelt, strong, your experience advice as far as choosing the career and any you know thoughts around that?
Speaker 2:I guess the biggest thing is to make sure that you have your path. I think that's the biggest thing that I've noticed is that you, especially as a teacher, might have ways of doing things or ways that you can teach all these types of things, but for you, as long as you know what is most important for you, your classroom and you as a person, that's all that really matters. You can take on advice and maybe take some tips from them, but make sure not to feed into all of that and just to become something that you don't want to be, especially when it's something that you're passionate about.
Speaker 1:Right Be your own unique, authentic teacher.
Speaker 2:Yes, or engineer or whatever yeah.
Speaker 1:What about? What would you give as an advice for someone that hasn't quite decided what their career might be Like? How did you figure out what you might want to do, like what? What were the steps or what was you know something where you chose to be in education?
Speaker 2:I think the biggest thing for me that helped me is because for a while I didn't know I had to take quite a while to think about it but was the qualities that you enjoy doing and figuring out if that's a career path. So, even though I could have been a teacher, I could have also been, you know, a manager or something like that, because I like being able to help people and solve problems and all those things. So figuring out the skills that you're good at or that you enjoy doing that make you feel happy and you'll be surprised at how many different options there are. And just being okay with not knowing for a bit or having to change your mind is totally fine, because you know I might not be a teacher in five years, but at least at the moment, right now, I do want to be.
Speaker 1:So don't hold on to things that you are passionate about anymore or try to become passionate about them again through experience or, you know, going through a master's or learning more about stuff yeah, that's good, and I think I I resonate the most with the qualities, like sometimes we try to fit into a box or we try to fit into like okay, well, if you want to be this, this is the qualities that you have to have. So it's like you try to change yourself to fit into that. Now you look at any kind of like job sometimes or careers, and it's just like they want all these qualities. But I don't know that anyone I mean I'm sure it happens, but sometimes you just want to know your qualities first and then you know there should be something online. If there's not, this says what are your five top qualities?
Speaker 2:And then what? Kind of job or career should you go into, I'm sure there's something.
Speaker 1:So I think there's assessments they do in school sometimes too. That will will help you like more, clarify what it is. But I really like that get the qualities, be those qualities and then attract that stuff to you. So, exactly, yeah, we want to say thank you. Thank you, makota, for being with us today during this podcast. We challenge you to share the show with someone right now, or any of the other ones, and continue the discussion, because they might need to hear what we're saying. You know, or you might have just had a discussion with someone that's just like, hey, listen, here's another perspective. Or hey, this might support where you are with this. So we have more compelling shows coming up and some great past recordings, so go see what catches your attention.
Speaker 1:On our website, dynamicshowinfo plus, you can read their more defined definition on dynamic and being dynamic. We also want to remind you to align with your dynamic well-being, as it is a daily thing. Yes, for sure, every day. Oh, and I do need to add that all materials are copyrighted and are for informational purposes. So, until we meet again, thank you, thank you, thank you for listening. Thank you again, makota, for being our guest on here, thanks for having me and congratulations on how far that you've come so far. Yes, yes, and make it a dynamic day. Make it a dynamic day.
